Descriptions

312 deposits a 29% Cr / 9% Ni austenitic / ferritic stainless steel weld metal with a ferrite content of about FN 40. The weld metal exhibits excellent tolerance to dilution from dissimilar and difficult-to-weld base materials without hot cracking, together with high strength and very good heat and oxidation resistance.

Applications:

Difficult-to-weld steel e.g. high carbon hardenable tool, die and spring steel, 13% Mn steel, free-cutting steel, high temperature steel.
Surfacing of metal-to-metal wear areas, hot working tools, furnace components.
Buffer layers prior to hard facing with high chromium carbide deposits.
Dissimilar joints between stainless and high carbon steel.
